There is a life out there waiting for you
When we find ourselves in rocky territory, it is essential to have a map of the path, and someone to help spot the potholes. Therapy is a crucial element of wellness and self care. Therapy treatment after an “emotional injury” is just as necessary as pursuing medical treatment following a physical injury. It doesn’t go away on its own, and it will find pesky ways of interfering with daily life until you address it. Avoiding certain people or places, comfort food, alcohol, and overworking can feel like relief from suffering in the moment, only to find the anxiety, low mood, emptiness, memories, or hurt to return. If you have ever found yourself saying or doing things that just aren’t “you”, your emotions were probably at the steering wheel, only for you to have regret later. If you are thrown into rage over “small” things, I am here to tell you there is a valid reason for your reactions, and your system needs some updating so it can respond to its’ present environment more effectively.
As a Certified Grief Educator, Registered Social Worker, and multi-model integrative psychotherapist, you can be assured that my services are held to the highest standard of practice. To those who have felt unimportant, left behind and not good enough, you have the right to heal and move forward in your life’s greater purpose. My life is dedicated to providing emotional and trauma recovery to those who feel lost and broken, which at some point or another, is most of us.
I have been studying and practicing effective mental health treatments for 19 years (11 years post masters graduation, 8 years during university education) in various settings including healthcare, corrections, victim services and community outreach. I proudly served in mandated settings and also in clinical settings with at risk youth and adults. For four years, I facilitated group treatment with the Sex Offender Treatment Program, and contributed to safer communities.
During the last eight years of my career, I have independently developed, operated, and maintained a successful community practice for patients of a local family health team, focusing on treatment for mental health with teenagers and adults. In this role, I also provide supervision to masters students from various universities as they prepare for clinical service. Additionally, I have sat on various committees that produce free community resources to promote resilience and recovery. At this time, I am proud to offer individual appointments through my private practice to those who are 15 years of age and older.
My goal is to make treatment simple, creative, and convenient, with methods you can turn to over and over again on your life’s journey. We all need someone to confide in that we feel truly safe with, and it is my greatest honour to be in your corner.
Sincerely,
Gillian Daniel
